I BLEED GREEN #WAROFWORDS6 by Charlee

I went in search of me
Peeling my heart open like the pages of a notebook
Page after page after page
And there I found me, beneath the shambles of insanity and uncertainty
Bleeding, Green

The colour of a society
With hearts large enough to bear
The tenancy of religious extremism
Ethnic hypocrisy and political machination
A society that bore me right in the heart of poverty
Orchestrated by men with potbellies for common sense
And hearts large enough to feed their own greed
A society where parties are voted
And meritocracy undermine for mediocrity

The colour of a society
Where history and cultural heritage are being sieged
By westernization
Where our stories are narrated by strangers
Our yesterday stolen from tomorrows children
Our today enslaved to unknown cultures
Our identity unidentifiable to us
The roots unknown to the buds
A society unnamed by customs not ours
Me unrecognizable to me
And for this

I went in search of me
Peeling my heart open like the pages of a notebook
Page after page after page
And there I found me, beneath the shambles of insanity and uncertainty
Bleeding, Green

A society founded on corruption
And fed by murmurs, grumbles and complains of
The hungry hearts of the masses
In opposition to the loathing elites
One day the ground will open up and feed on the fattened
A society of the loather for the loather and by the loathers
A society with a judiciary answerable to money
A society where if you don’t cheat
You no be sharp guy
Where stealing no be corruption
Where women belong in the kitchen and gender equality
In the other room

And for this I went in search of me
Peeling my heart open like the pages of a notebook
Page after page after page
And there I found me, beneath the shambles of insanity and uncertainty
Bleeding, Green
